To measure the learning effectiveness of SHARE, students answered surveys designed to assess changes in student opinions and content knowledge. We compared SHARE to a traditional lecture covering the same material as well as not presenting the topic in the class. Below are results of the effectiveness of the SHARE program.
-
-
Baseline opinions on the use of animals in research are positive. Students should be encouraged to discuss the topic openly.
-
-
Students in both SHARE and Lecture groups showed stronger support for the use of animals in research (views) after participating.
-
-
Students in both SHARE and Lecture groups exhibited an overall improvement in content knowledge following the class compared to Controls.
-
-
Free-response statements indicated that the majority of students participating in SHARE found the topic more enjoyable and engaging than students receiving the lecture. Representative paired responses selected from the same individual on open-ended questions asking what students liked and disliked most about the class are presented.
