Lab Rat Chat

A podcast to engage with the public about the necessity of humane and ethical animal research.

Lab Rat Chat is back!

After a two-year hiatus, we are happy to announce that Lab Rat Chat will be launching some new episodes!

The conversation is expanding with new guest hosts, special themed series, and fresh perspectives from across the research community. While continuing to explore the science, care, ethics, and policies that shape animal-based research, the new format will feature subject matter experts, researchers, veterinarians, communicators, and advocates who bring unique insights to today’s most important discussions. Whether you’re a longtime listener or discovering the podcast for the first time, Lab Rat Chat offers engaging conversations that connect people, science, and the future of medical progress.

Be sure to tune in for “Translational Conversations: From Model to Medicine,” a special series in collaboration with the ACNP/AMP BRAD Fellowship Program. The series is hosted by BRAD Fellow, Dr. Rachel Puralewski, and highlights discussions between animal and clinical researchers on the important interplay of their approaches for scientific advances in biomedical research. Each episode brings together a clinical researcher and an animal researcher studying related topics to explore the unique and translational strengths of their work—and how collaboration between both fields drives scientific progress.

Lab Rat Chat History

Lab Rat Chat is a podcast dedicated to providing the public with factual information about the importance of humane and ethical animal research. It was made possible through the Michael D. Hayre Fellowship in Public Outreach, sponsored by Americans for Medical Progress.

Lab Rat Chat was created by AMP Hayre Fellow Jeff Marshall, a student at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. In each episode of the podcast, Jeff and his cohost Danielle Dady, Senior Research Compliance Coordinator at Old Dominion University, examine the importance and applicability of animal research to both veterinary and human medicine. The podcast features easy-to-understand, engaging conversations with a variety of guests including veterinarians, animal care and welfare specialists and researchers.
