AMP Submits Comments to SACATM Calling for a Balanced Approach to Advancing NAMs
Washington, D.C. — November 3, 2026 — Americans for Medical Progress (AMP) submitted written comments ahead of the November 4-5 meeting of the Scientific Advisory Committee on Alternative Toxicological Methods (SACATM), offering two recommendations to help inform balanced, science-based policy discussions that advance NAMs while recognizing the continued importance of animal studies where appropriate.
First, AMP encouraged the development of a U.S. roadmap, informed by international efforts, that reflects NAMs’ current scientific capabilities and limitations while advancing all 3Rs: Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement. Second, AMP called for clearer, more consistent public communication about NAMs to help bridge the growing gap between scientific understanding and public expectations.
Together, these recommendations aim to ensure that agency decisions about the future of biomedical research are grounded in scientific evidence, recognize progress across all research approaches, and support continued improvements in animal welfare.
